This year, even more than years past, we remember the brutal dormitory attacks of July 1999, 18 Tir according to the Iranian calendar. These brutal attacks that killed and injured Tehran University students led to days of protests and the imprisonment of thousands of student demonstrators. Then, just as now, protesters faced grave consequences in their quest for freedom. We dedicate the evening to all those who have lost their lives for freedom in Iran, and we remember…
This program will be bi-lingual in Farsi and English. All are welcome.
Organized by the Committee in Support of the Resistance of Iranian People
For the past two weeks Iranian people have taken to the streets against the result of Iran’s presidential election, whether if it’s been in Tehran or in Toronto’s Queen’s Park. As reported by various media outlets, student dormitories in Iran have been raided by government militias in an attempt to silence their dissent.
On June 28 the Toronto-based Committee in Support of the Resistance of Iranian People – which I am a part of – held a panel discussion with six Iranian students from different political backgrounds asking what their analysis is of the current Iranian uprising and what we, in the West, can do to support it.

Join the Committee in Support of the Resistance of Iranian People where we will be discussing strategies and planning for future events and actions.
When: Saturday July 11th
Time: 5:30 PM
Where: Location will be announced shortly
Since the elections on June 12th, the streets of Iran have been crowded with discontent protestors. Here in Toronto, we have witnessed many successful events, discussions, and actions in solidarity with this resistance. We hope to hold this meeting to coordinate all our efforts and to continue supporting the resistance of Iranian people, especially now that the international media is no longer reporting on this issue regularly.
In this meeting, all participants will have the opportunity to offer their perspectives on how actions in Toronto should be sustained. We will be discussing different strategies and forms of organizing and exchange ideas about which types of actions would be most effective within the current context. Also, please save the date of our next event: Commemoration of 18th Tir. This event will be held on Sunday July 12th. Email announcement will be circulated soon.

A brief introduction
July 1, 2009
The response to the event on Sunday, June 21, 2009 was overwhelmingly positive. The event which was held at the University of Toronto asked the question: what can we do to to support the resistance in Iran?
There is a great need for the community to come together and re-build itself. To continue this momentum, we have established an ad-hoc group called the “Committee in Support of the Resistance of Iranian People.” The role of students, youth, and second generation in this committee is very important.
We are planning an event for 18 Tir and future teach-ins to do outreach work to the non-Iranian community.
